I recently tried out LuvFree, a dating site that claims to be “totally free” and was disappointed with the user profiles. To start off, all of the profiles are public so anyone can view them without having an account or being logged in – not exactly what I would call private! Plus you can’t set up a custom bio on your profile which is pretty lame.
The location info for each profile isn’t great either; it only shows you how far away someone lives from where they created their account but there’s no indication of distance between users who live in different cities or states (or countries). The features on this site are seriously lacking compared to other sites out there – both paid and free ones alike. For starters, the search feature is pretty basic so don’t expect any bells and whistles here; you can only filter by gender (not very helpful if you’re looking for something specific) age range (which isn’t all that precise either), location radius from your zip code…and not much else! You also won’t find any unique features such as personality tests or compatibility quizzes which would be useful in helping people narrow down their options more quickly than scrolling through endless profiles manually one at a time…boringggg!!
Plus I found some of the messaging functions quite confusing too – no way am I going back there again anytime soon! The text box was really small so typing anything longer than a few sentences felt like trying fit ten pounds of potatoes into five pound bag – impossible!! And then once sent my messages seemed get lost in cyberspace somewhere because none of them ever got answered…bummerrrr!!! On top of that if someone did respond back within 24 hours my message disappeared anyway without me being able read what they wrote….what?!? The menu bar at the top of each page has been designed with all subtlety of a sledgehammer – bold fonts in bright colours don’t really scream ‘romance’ do they? Even more annoying is how often these menus move around as you navigate from one page to another; if I wanted whack-a-mole I’d head off down my local arcade instead! As far as usability goes there’s nothing particularly special about LuvFree either – basic features like search filters or message notifications require premium membership which means shelling out some extra cash if you want any sort of decent user experience here. It also doesn’t help that many pages seem sluggish when loading up content; sometimes it feels like even scrolling through messages can take forever…it’s enough time for me grab myself a cup tea while waiting!
All in all then this isn’t great news for those looking love on LuvFree – what could have been promising platform ends up feeling rather lacklustre due its poor design choices and subpar performance levels overall. If only they had put half as much effort into making sure users were happy than plastering ads everywhere maybe we wouldn’t be having this conversation now would we?
